Hieroglyphic Being (Mathematics | Soul Jazz | Rough Trade | Ghostly International) (Jamal Moss) has long been a part of the Chicago House & Techno scene as both a promoter, producer, and DJ. He has recorded for a variety of labels including Sony Europe, Axis Records, Ghostly International, Rough Trade, Soul Jazz, and his own Mathematics label.
Moss's first creative endeavors were as part of a crew that created industrial soundscapes or 'Art Noise' for the Liquid Love parties held at the famed Powerplant in Chicago from 1989 to 1990. When the Powerplant closed, Moss and his cohorts started Liquid Sex, which became a magnet for many well-known house artists such as Steve Poindexter, who put Moss in touch with future collaborators, the Chicago Bad Boys collective.
One of the last of the line of producers directly influenced by Ron Hardy at the Music Box & Influenced by Sun Ra & John Cage & the Free Jazz & Experimental Noise Visionaries of the past. He was also taken under the wing of house legend Adonis, who became a key mentor figure in Moss's life and an inspiration for his moniker.
His in demand live set have brought him to venues and festivals all over the world including Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Lakeshore Arts Jazz Festival Showcase. Jamal's composed sound art installations have been on display in museums in Spain (2008) and Italy (2011).
Mike Broers (Official Site) runs local Chicago imprint Ghost Arcade LTD. He has been releasing under-the-radar electronic gold since 2001 (and recording since 1997) but only recently began performing solo. During most of 2010 and 2011 Broers worked with Michael Perkins/MR666 providing video collage and live synthesizer percussion and bass. For this show Broers is planning to assault the empty bottle with relentless loops of 909 beats, 303 acid, and moog klanks. Its non-music to my ears, rave on.
Leather Disco (Official Site | Night Moves | Brilliant Pebbles) is Ross Kelly, a Chicago IL. based DJ and producer. As a DJ Ross has held Residencies at Chicago's Smart Bar, Dannys Tavern, and Beauty Bar. He has opened for Trus' Me, The Twelves, Mark E Quark, and other internationally touring DJs. As one third of Chicago based Dance Pop band, Brilliant Pebbles, he has opened for Stereo Total, My Golden Mask others. . Ross is Currently a resident DJ at Chicago Disco / Italo event "Night Moves" with DJ Brandon Walsh at Danny's Tavern. "Night Moves" was also named Best of Chicago by Timeout Chicago in 2011.
